• To promote risk management in the public sector (national departments, provincial departments, municipalities, public and municipal entities).
• To provide timely and effective support and guidance to assist public sector institutions to implement risk management successfully.
• To develop and promote a robust and uniform risk management framework supported by appropriate tools and techniques.
• To build risk management capacity throughout the public sector.
• To facilitate knowledge sharing amongst public sector risk management professionals.

• Issue policies and guidelines to promote effective functioning of Risk Management.
• Reporting on progress in implementation of effective Risk Management.
• Facilitate Risk Management Training.
• Communication with key stakeholders.
• Review Risk Management reports, identify weaknesses, make recommendation and develop Best Practice Guides.
• Develop and maintain a Risk Management framework.
• Determine status of Risk Management and assess level of skills.
